Kathleen is an experienced consumer, retail, channel marketing and creative services manager. She has worked in various categories on large brands such as STAPLES, Atlanta Bread Company, SPANX, Bruce, and Philips Headphones. She has worked with some of the largest US retailers (Target, Walmart, Amazon, Lowe’s, The Home Depot and Floor & Decor), with the purpose being to maximize the return in the retail space in store or online.
Q: Please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I have 10 years of ad agency and client-side marketing experience. I started out at STAPLES in a role within their internal ad agency. I will say the biggest turning point in my career was moving to Italy and getting my International MBA. I learned so much, not just from the classes but how to work within different cultures, different backgrounds and language levels. I came from a retail perspective with a concentration in Luxury and Design Brand Management. It was all about the experience and how you make consumers feel when they see, read or experience your product. I wrote my thesis at SPANX and afterwards did some time within the flooring industry along with consumer electronics and food.
Q: Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
My career has always been faced with challenges; however, you just have to learn to embrace things and be open to change. I have never been in a position where I have stayed with the same team, same responsibilities or even the same category throughout my journey.
Q: What is “success” or “successful” for you?
Success for me is finding something that I can be passionate about within the job and ensuring at the end of the day I did what was best for the brand, consumer and myself.
